Managing Page Design
Summary : The appearance of pages in Easysite is defined by templates (which specify the layout of the editable area of the page), and themes (which specify the styling of elements on the page).
This article explains how to edit and manage page templates and themes to change the appearance of pages.
To change the Theme or Layout of a page, select [Edit]. The following view will be presented:
Action | Description |
Save |
Allows the author to save their changes as draft, in order to continue editing later. The published version of the page will be unchanged if the page is saved. |
Publish | Publish allows the author to make their changes live. |
Revert |
Revert allows the author to undo all changes to the page, and revert to the last draft or published version of the page. |
Stop | Stop allows the author to exit the Edit option and return to the live view of the page. |
Doctype
By default the Doctype will be set at site level. However, the Doctype can be changed on individual pages.
Select the appropriate Doctype for the page, then click on [Save] or [Save and Force Cascade] as required.
Theme
The Theme controls the branding of a site, as well as formatting rules for content such as Headings & Subheadings, Fonts and Links.
Select the appropriate Theme for the page, together with the appropriate save option:
Action | Description |
Save | will apply the new theme to the current page plus any child pages which were previously set to inherit. Any child pages where a theme was selected directly will be unchanged. |
Save and force cascade | will apply the new theme to the current page plus all child pages, including those which were previously not inheriting their theme from a parent. |
Save and do not force cascade | will apply the new theme to the current page plus any child pages which were previously set to inherit. Any child pages where a theme was selected directly will be unchanged. |
Template
The Template controls the layout of the editable area of the page, and can be filtered by:
Filter | Description |
Exact Matches | templates containing the same elements as the page. |
Close Matches | templates containing the same elements as the page plus others. |
Select the appropriate template, and [Publish] the page.
Note that the layout of an existing page (e.g. adding an extra Asset element) may be changed via the Structure interface or via the Template itself.
Structure
Structure contains the elements which allow content to be added to the page. Authors may be allowed to amend the layout of a page by changing the structure.
The following view will be presented:
Drag and drop the elements required to create the desired layout.
Note that if the ribbon of elements on the right of the screen is not presented when in the Structure view, the Template has been locked.
This means that changes to the page layout must be made to the Template used by the page. These changes may then be cascaded to existing pages built from the selected Template.
